There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ , who don't walk according to , but according to . For of of life in Christ made me free from of and of . For what couldn't do, in that it was weak through , did, sending his own Son in the of and for , he condemned in , that the of might be fulfilled in us who don't walk according to , but according to . For those who live according to set their on the things of , but those who live according to , the things of . For of is , but of is life and peace; because of is hostile toward , for it is not subject to , neither indeed can it be. Those who are in can't please . But you are not in but in , if it is so that of dwells in you. But if any man doesn't have of Christ, he is not his. If Christ is in you, the body is because of , but is alive because of . But if of him who up from dwells in you, he who up Christ from will also give life to your mortal bodies through his who dwells in you. So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to , to live after . For if you live after , you must ; but if by you put to the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by of , these are children of . For you didn't receive of bondage again to fear, but you received of adoption, by whom we cry, "! !" himself testifies with our that we are children of ; and if children, then — of and joint with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the which will be toward us. For the creation waits with eager for the children of to be . For the creation was subjected to , not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in that the creation itself also will be from the bondage of decay into the of the of the children of . For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the of , even we ourselves groan within ourselves, for adoption, the of our body. For we were in , but that is seen is not . For who hopes for that which he sees? But if we for that which we don't see, we wait for it with . In the same way, also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to as we ought. But himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered. He who searches the knows what is on , because he makes intercession for according to . We know that all things work together for good for those who love , for those who are called according to his purpose. For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the of his Son, that he might be among many brothers. Whom he predestined, those he also called. Whom he called, those he also . Whom he , those he also glorified. What then shall we say about these things? If is for us, who can be against us? He who didn't spare his own Son, but him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things? Who could bring a charge against chosen ones? It is who . Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who , yes rather, who was , who is at of , who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could , or anguish, or persecution, or , or , or peril, or ? Even as , "For your sake we are killed all day long. We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither , nor life, nor , nor , nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from love which is in Christ our .

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.
- Rome
- The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
- Judea
- Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
- The wider world
- Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
- Further afield
- The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
