Stand therefore in the wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the . Behold, I say unto you, that if ye be , Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is , that he is a debtor to do . Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are by ; ye are fallen from . For we through wait for the of by . For in neither availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but which worketh by love. Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. A little leaveneth the whole lump. I have confidence in you through , that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his , whosoever he be. And I, brethren, if I yet preach , why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of ceased. I would they were even which trouble you. For, brethren, ye have been called unto ; only use not for an occasion to , but by love one another. For all is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in , and ye shall not fulfil the of . For lusteth against , and against : and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of , ye are not . Now the works of are manifest, which are these; , fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, , hatred, variance, emulations, , strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not of . But the fruit of is love, joy, peace, , gentleness, goodness, , Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have with the affections and lusts. If we live in , let us also walk in . Let us not be desirous of , provoking one another, envying one another.

The world at this moment · Under Rome, 63 BC to AD 100

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.

Rome
The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
Judea
Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
The wider world
Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
Further afield
The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
