Then fourteen years after I went up again to with , and took with me also. And I went up by , and communicated unto them that which I preach among the , but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in . But neither , who was with me, being a , was compelled to be : And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our which we have in Christ , that they might bring us into bondage: To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of might continue with you. But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: But contrariwise, when they saw that of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as of the was unto ; (For he that wrought effectually in to the apostleship of the , the same was mighty in me toward the :) And when , , and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the that was given unto me, they gave to me and the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the . Only they would that we should remember ; the same which I also was forward to do. But when was come to , I withstood him to the , because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from , he did eat with the : but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the . And the other dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that also was with their dissimulation. But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of , I said unto before them all, If thou, being a , livest after the manner of , and not as do the , why compellest thou the to live as do the ? We who are by nature, and not of the , Knowing that a man is not by the , but by the of , even we have in , that we might be by the of Christ, and not by the : for by the shall no be . But if, while we seek to be by Christ, we ourselves also are found , is therefore Christ the minister of ? forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through am to , that I might live unto . I am with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in I live by the of the Son of , who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the of : for if come by , then Christ is in .

The world at this moment · Under Rome, 63 BC to AD 100

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.

Rome
The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
Judea
Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
The wider world
Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
Further afield
The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
