And as he went out of , one of his saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon over against , and and and asked him privately, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am ; and shall deceive many. And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. But take heed to yourselves: for they shall you up to councils; and in the ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before and kings for my sake, for a against them. And must first be published among all nations. But when they shall lead you, and you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Ghost. Now the brother shall betray the brother to , and the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to . And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall unto the end, the same shall be . But when ye shall see the of desolation, spoken of by the , standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in flee to the mountains: And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house: 16And let him that is in the field not again for to take up his garment. But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 18And ye that your flight be not in the winter. For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not of the creation which created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that had shortened those days, no should be : but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is ; or, lo, he is there; him not: For false Christs and false shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her , And the stars of shall fall, and the powers that are in shall be shaken. And then shall they see coming in the clouds with great and . And then shall he send his , and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of . Now learn of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done. and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the which are in , neither the Son, but . Take ye heed, watch and : for ye know not when the time is. For is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

The world at this moment · Under Rome, 63 BC to AD 100

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.

Rome
The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
Judea
Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
The wider world
Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
Further afield
The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
