But there were false also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift . And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. For if spared not the that , but cast them down to hell, and them into chains of , to be reserved unto ; And spared not the old world, but the eighth person, a preacher of , bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of and Gomorrha into condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And , vexed with the filthy conversation of : (For that man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) knoweth how to the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after in the of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas , which are greater in and might, bring not railing accusation against them before . But these, as natural brute , made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly in their own corruption; And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of , and that cannot cease from ; beguiling unstable : an they have exercised with covetous practices; children: Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following of the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his : the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the . These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of is reserved for ever. For when they speak great swelling words of , they allure through the lusts of , through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them , they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of and , they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known of , than, after they have known it, to turn from the unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true , The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

The world at this moment · Under Rome, 63 BC to AD 100

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.

Rome
The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
Judea
Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
The wider world
Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
Further afield
The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
