Whosoever believeth that is the Christ is born of : and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of , when we love , and keep his . For this is the love of , that we keep his : and his are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our . Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that is the Son of ? This is he that came by water and , even ; not by water only, but by water and . And it is that beareth , because is truth. For there are three that bear record in , , the Word, and the Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear in earth, , and the water, and : and these three agree in one. If we receive the of men, the of is greater: for this is the of which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of hath the in himself: he that believeth not hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that gave of his Son. And this is the record, that hath given to us , and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of hath not life. These things have I written unto you that on the name of the Son of ; that ye may know that ye have , and that ye may on the name of the Son of . And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we of him. If any man see his brother a which is not unto , he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that not unto . There is a unto : I do not say that he shall for it. All unrighteousness is : and there is a not unto . We know that whosoever is born of sinneth not; but he that is begotten of keepeth himself, and that one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of , and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son . This is the true , and . Little children, keep yourselves from idols. .

The world at this moment · Under Rome, 63 BC to AD 100

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.

Rome
The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
Judea
Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
The wider world
Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
Further afield
The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
