Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the of . Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found . But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s : yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby : but he that judgeth me is . Therefore judge nothing before the time, until come, who both will bring to the hidden things of , and will make manifest the counsels of the : and then shall every man have of . And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou , as if thou hadst not received it? Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to ye did reign, that we also might reign with you. For I think that hath set forth us last, as it were appointed to : for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to , and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. Even unto this present hour we both , and thirst, and are , and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we ; being persecuted, we suffer it: Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day. I write not these things to you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ I have begotten you through . Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. For this cause have I sent unto you , who is my beloved son, and in , who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every . Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you. But I will come to you shortly, if will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the . For of is not in word, but in . What will ye? shall I come unto you with a , or in love, and in of meekness?

The world at this moment · Under Rome, 63 BC to AD 100

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.

Rome
The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
Judea
Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
The wider world
Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
Further afield
The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
