I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in , that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of our , who all people to be and come to full knowledge of the truth. For there is one and one mediator between and men, the man Christ , who gave himself as a for all, the at the proper time, to which I was appointed a preacher and —I am telling the truth in Christ, not lying—a teacher of the in and truth. I therefore that the men in every place , lifting up hands without and doubting. In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety, not with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing, but with good works, which is appropriate for women professing godliness. Let a woman learn in quietness with full submission. But I don't permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise over a man, but to be in quietness. For was formed first, then Eve. wasn't deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into ; but she will be through her childbearing, if they continue in , love, and with sobriety.

Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.
- Rome
- The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.
- Judea
- Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.
- The wider world
- Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.

- The Han dynasty rules China and trades silk westward along routes that touch the Roman world at second hand. In Britain the Roman conquest begins within a decade of the crucifixion.
