Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I them to you. But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is . Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her hair also . But if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair or be shaved, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the and of , but the woman is the of the man. For man is not from woman, but woman from man; for man wasn't created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this cause the woman ought to have over her own head, because of the . For in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken. What, don't you have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise and put them to who don't have enough? What shall I tell you? Shall I you? In this I don't you. For I received from that which also I to you, that on the night in which he was betrayed took bread. When he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me." In the same way he also took after supper, saying, "This is the in my . Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this , you proclaim until he comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks in a way unworthy of will be guilty of the body and of . Judea as a client kingdom and then a province. Roads, garrisons, taxes, crucifixion, and a common Greek language that let a message travel the empire faster than any before it.
- Rome
- The republic tears itself apart in civil war and comes out as an empire under Augustus. What follows is two centuries of relative peace across the whole Mediterranean, enforced by legions and paid for by taxes, with safe roads and safe sea lanes. Every one of Paul's journeys depends on that.

- Governed first through Herod the Great, a client king of enormous ability and enormous brutality who rebuilds the temple into one of the wonders of the ancient world, then directly by Roman prefects. Crucifixion is the standard penalty for sedition and is used often and publicly.

- Greek is spoken from Spain to Syria, which means a letter written in Corinth can be read in Rome without translation. Jewish communities already exist in most major cities, which is where the first Christian preaching lands. Mystery religions, imperial cult, and philosophy all compete in the same marketplace.
